My Story

Pussy Noir’s story is a thrilling journey through art, performance, and culture, woven together by an unshakable passion for self-expression. Born and raised in the vibrant Washington, DC area, Pussy’s immersion in the world of theater began at just 5 years old, when they claimed the leading role in their very first play. It didn’t take long for the stage to become their second home, and by the time they were a teenager, Pussy was already making waves in the artistic world. Their early performances included Clinton’s second inaugural festival and the premiere of the opera King, later performing with the Victorian Lyric Opera Company.

At the prestigious Duke Ellington School of the Arts, they honed their craft as a vocal music major, alongside some of Washington DC’s most talented young artists. Summers were spent in programs like The Washington Opera’s Young Singers and the National Gallery of Art’s Student Fellowship, solidifying their reputation as a rising star. After graduation, Pussy Noir took a bold leap into the New York fashion scene, where they started styling photoshoots and working backstage at major fashion shows. A transformative stint in Paris further ignited their passion for art and design, influences that remain deeply embedded in their work today.

Blending their deep-rooted talents in music, theater, fashion, and art, Pussy Noir’s stage persona began to take shape—an androgynous force within the nightclub circuit, later expanding into museums and galleries across the city. As a beloved act in the DC area, Pussy Noir has become a cultural icon, known for their electrifying performances and unapologetic gender-fuck imagery. Every performance invites the audience to fully immerse themselves in an exhilarating sensory experience.

In 2019, Pussy Noir was selected as a cultural leader and artist fellow for the Culture Caucus at the John F. Kennedy Center's Reach Center, an honor that further solidified their position as an influential figure in the arts. They have performed at groundbreaking events such as the Hirshhorn Museum and continue to captivate audiences with their innovative "one-woman" cabaret at Trade, one of the country’s top LGBTQI venues, where their show has enjoyed a successful four-year run.

A defining moment in their career came in June 2021, when Pussy Noir achieved a lifelong dream by performing at the Kennedy Center’s inaugural Drag Festival. Not only did they perform, but they also co-produced the festival, which celebrated the rich history and artistry of drag, cementing its place in the international performing arts community.

In 2022, Pussy Noir debuted their fashion collection, Our Place in the Sun, at the Kennedy Center, followed by a bold exploration of history with a collection dedicated to the legendary William Dorsey Swann in 2023. They also co-wrote, produced, and starred in a film about Swann, the pioneering drag queen, as part of their ongoing commitment to bringing untold stories to light. Between 2021 and 2022, Pussy Noir filmed a groundbreaking documentary, The World According to Pussy Noir, directed by three-time Emmy winner Amy Oden, offering a raw and intimate look at their multifaceted life and career.

Pussy Noir’s artistry is defined by fearless exploration, boundary-pushing creativity, and a relentless desire to celebrate and elevate the unconventional. Their journey is far from over—and the world is watching.
